Friends of Holmeswood School

The events we organise are both social occasions and fund-raisers, which always attract lots of support from the residents in the village and the surrounding area.

Regular fund-raisers include:

The Spring Fair- a traditional fair held on the school field with various stalls run by ‘Friends’ and the children.  Always popular are the lucky dip, face –painting, tom- bola and the delicious homemade cake stalls.

Strawberry teas have also proved a huge success at this event.

The Christmas fair- is held at Holmeswood village Hall and once again has an array of stalls but with the added bonus of a visit from Father Christmas.

Sports Night- an early evening competition of team sports by the School children, followed by a BBQ.

Elegant Balls & Dinner Dances- A chance for us to don our glad rags & dance the night away, have delicious food, wine, and enjoy ourselves in beautiful decorated venues.  Always a sellout evening and our best fund-raisers with over £1500 being made on some occasions.

Barn Dance- held in a traditional barn with the band playing on a trailer, we have the opportunity to swing our partners, eat a hog roast & apple pie, all swilled down with plenty of drinks.

Dad's Football Match- a football match between Holmeswood Dad’s and our neighbouring Rufford School Dad’s was revived in September after 27 years. We had an enjoyable, if not competitive, afternoon with refreshments, BBQ & cakes, which resulted in Ruffords Dad’s winning the Ecky Thump Trophy.  The money raised at this event was split between the 2 schools and we hope to make it an annual event.

Community Events- we also represent the school by participating in events in the community.  The biggest one being our float for the Village walking day in which children & parents dress up and ride on the float as the parade tours the village.

Holmeswood Methodist School is a small rural school, currently with just 26 pupils. All parents automatically become members of the Friends of Holmeswood when their children start at the school and although we are only a small group compared to most PTA’s, we pride ourselves on the reputation we have gained for organising such excellent events, the support we receive and the money we raise.

Last year we have been fundraising for Phase I of the new extensions planned for the school.  This is an extension to the infant classroom, which is nearly finished.
